Public won’t get say on Toll Tax for now

Pamela Welsh
20/ 3/2008

A REFERENDUM on the congestion charge has been deferred indefinitely after councillors threw out the idea at a lengthy council meeting.

The Conservative opposition moved a motion at a meeting of full council on Wednesday, March 19 for a public vote on the GMPTA’s TIF bid, but the decision was deferred until after any decision by the Government on whether the bid will be successful.

I HOPE JONES AND MERRY ARE LEFT SMARTING IN THE LOCAL ELECTIONS AS LONG AS EVERYBODY IS AWARE THE SO CALLED LABOUR EXPERIMENT IS WELL AND TRULY OVER,AND IT WILL BE THE SILENT MAJORITY THAT WILL HAVE TO DECIDE WHAT IS RIGHT FOR OUR LOCAL COUNCILS BY VOTING THESE WASTERS OUT OF OFFICE....YOU DECIDE

COUNCILLORS WHO BLATANTLY IGNORE THE WISHES OF THEIR ELECTORATE SHOULD BE RUN OUT OF OFFICE !!!!!

RESIDENTS SHOULD REMEMBER THIS AT THE FORTHCOMING LOCAL ELECTIONS !!!!!

They know what the majority vote will be so they will do their best to avoid this.

These councillors should remember who they are working for, they seems only to be interested in lining their own pockets these days....Mr Merry doesn't exactly look starved does he!

I cannot believe this man, he is quoted as saying:

"We can’t have a referendum without knowing what we are voting on.

We would be voting on a simple yes/no ballot as to whether the people who live and work in Greater Manchester want road pricing.

Please vote in the next local elections and get this fool and his cohorts out of any position of power, They seem determined to make our lives a misery so vote and kick them out.

Interestingly of course Roger Jones decided not to represent his Irlam ward in the Council Chamber on Wednesday afternoon. He was there in the morning, but scarpered well before we got around to debating public transport.

When do the public ever get a say? Merry is always against public involvement in the decision making process. Seemingly the photograph was taken after the council meeting, held after a thoroughly delicious concoction of ripe pickings at the Novotel. We are, once again, being witheld of choice. Role on the elections. Roll off your electoral seat, John!

The citizens of Salford must be given a referendum on this proposal which to my mind is just another stealth tax. Who would like to bet that the decision on TIF will not be available until after the local elections in May. Bear this in mind when using your vote.
