Harte-felt praise
Kathryn Ryan20/12/2007
THE head of closure-threatened St George’s RC High, who is leading the fight to keep the school open, has been praised by Ofsted inspectors for providing ‘outstanding leadership’.
Government inspectors visited the school last month and gave it an overall rating of good and rated some aspects of the school ‘outstanding’, including the efforts of headteacher Philip Harte. Now, staff and pupils say the report proves they should stay open.
Congratulations to Mr Harte and all the staff, pupils and parents at St George's who have contributed towards an excellent report despite all the unnecessary stress and pressure that has been placed on the school by the stupid closure proposals.
St George's is an excellent school at the heart of the local community, and as a Ward Councillor for Walkden South the school continues to have my full support.

A good idea might be for St. Georges's teachers or parents or governors - whoever - to stand against Labour councillors at the next opportunity. I suspect a Save St. Georges ticket would prove to be a winning ticket. Merry Christmas to the St. George's community.

I once read 'The Madness of King George'. Obviously this does not apply to the Philip Harte and others involved in the leadership at St George's.
Congratulations to all staff and pupils for once again proving a strong case for retaining a beacon of success, burning brightly in Salford Education Systems pile of dull embers.
If Cllrs Warmisham and Merry need any 'leadership' and 'management' guidance they know where to go, don't they? Mr Harte, expect a few knocks on your door.
Actually, retract that comment, they don't know where St George's is, how successful it is and probably have spurious Literacy Skills that can't see the plain obvious.
Sacrificing success is the most ludicrous notion ever. Keep up the campaign for your school's survival. The school is thriving under enormous scrutiny so one wonders how well you could do without this scandal facing you everyday. A 'Merry' Christmas to you all but not so 'Merry' one to others.

Well done St George's RC, keep up the good work! All the best in your fight for survival. Why on earth Salford Council wants to shut down such a school is beyond any sane and reasonable person's understanding. Of course the Labour-dominated Council is not going to do a Roman Catholic school any favours is it? If you're wondering what planet Labour councillors live on remember: vote the buggers out! The main reason Labour dominates is because of voter apathy and a free run in the press. Labour's Eddie Sheehy got the boot in Eccles last time because voters stood up and said "We're not prepared to take this rubbish anymore!" That needs to happen throughout the city of Salford.
