Core - apple day sounds fun

TATTON Park is celebrating National Apple Day on Sunday with a whole array of apple-tastic activities!

Younger visitors can meet the Busy Bee, join in apple printing games and pip each other to the post in the hunt for the Giant Alphabet Apples. They will also be able to plant up and take home the beginnings of their very own Tatton apple tree.

For older visitors, one of Tatton’s senior gardening team will be conducting hour-long talks about pruning and training of fruit trees and getting to the core of what makes a successful orchard.

And there will be scrumping of some scrumptuous varieties on the day.

THE Mind Body Spirit Northern Festival is being held this weekend. The popular annual event will attract thousands of people to Manchester Central (formerly GMex) on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and this year it promises a vast programme of experts, information and demonstrations. You can learn about everything from classic yoga to tai chi, experience Brain Gym, bellydancing and guided meditation – there’s even a stand-up comic pyschic show! Workshop presenters include Barefoot Doctor, Gill Edwards, Jason Chan, Glennyce Eckersley, Lui Krieg and Stefan Driess, among many well-known names. TAKE a guided walk around Stockport on Sunday and re-live the town’s historic industrial history. HatWorks’ expert guide Sue Lea will be explaining the importance of the once-flourishing hatting industry on Stockport on a moderate walk of about two miles. GET an early Halloween scare at Redhouse Farm in Dunham Massey. From Friday until October 27, they’re running a Spooktacular event when the old Milking Parlour is turned into a creepy cottage terror trail awaiting any child daring to brave the haunted pathways.  Come dressed up for the fancy dress competition which runs each day of the holiday in what promises to be a scary time for all. VOTE for your favourite pictures of Salford at a special exhibition which opens on Saturday and runs for the rest of the month. As Seen in Salford is an annual photographic competition to capture the sights and scenes of the city. It takes place at Salford Tourist Information Centre at The Lowry in Salford Quays.
