CLUBBING: Dizzee Rascal, Warehouse Project (behind Piccadilly Station), Sat 18 Oct

DIZZEE Rascal sometimes seems less like a rap artist and more of an advert for young disadvantaged Britain triumphing against the odds.
Hailing from Bow, east London, the young rap star overcame much adversity.
His father died when he was a toddler and he had brushes with petty crime before finding his way via music.
At the age of just 18, Rascal released his debut album Boy in da Corner, which scooped the 2003 Mercury Music Prize and had him hailed as a saviour of British urban music.
Five years on, Rascal has thankfully lived up to his early promise.
A talented rapper, songwriter and producer, his greatest gift has simply to be himself. After years of British hip-hop stars trying to ape their American cousins, Dizzee Rascal proudly wore his British roots on his sleeve.
His debut album was like a Year Zero for British hip-hop, Rascal addressing a youth generation brought up on the perils and pleasures of Blair’s Britain in his own unique lyrical style.
Back in July this year, Rascal completed his leap from hip-hop underground to genuine pop star status with his first number one single, the brilliantly infectious Dance Wiv Me. Clearly enjoying his new mainstream pop star status, he will arrive in Manchester this week to perform at the hippest club night in town, the Warehouse Project.
