MUSICAL: West Side Story, Lowry, 30 Sep to 11 Oct

ENJOY the fabulous musical spectacle of West Side Story with the 50th anniversary production next week.

The legendary tale of rival factions clashing to block the path of true love comes to the Lowry in a stunning version direct from London and sell-out successes in Paris, Tokyo and Beijing.

It’s directed and choreographed by Joey McKneely, former assistant to Jerome Robbins who created the original groundbreaking choreography. Combine Arthur Laurents’ book with the unforgettable score by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and you have one of the greatest musicals of all time. It deals with dark social themes, based on Romeo and Juliet, and marked a turning point in American musical theatre.

The 1962 film version won 10 Academy Awards and you can revel once more in wonderful songs like Maria, Tonight, Somewhere, America and I Feel Pretty, in this entertaining production.
