DANCE: The Nutcracker, Lowry, from Tuesday 26th

HOT on the heels of a hugely successful season at Sadler’s Wells, Matthew Bourne’s Nutcracker! is heading to the Lowry.
Laced with family-sized helpings of Bourne’s trademark wit and pathos, Nutcracker! follows Clara’s bittersweet journey from a bleak Christmas Eve at the orphanage through a shimmering, ice skating winter wonderland to the kingdom of Sweetieland.
Tchaikovsky’s glorious score and sets and costumes by Olivier Award-winning designer Anthony Ward combine with sizzling choreography to create a fresh interpretation of this classic tale. Last year Matthew Bourne celebrated 20 years as artistic director of his own independent dance company New Adventures, which has gone from strength to strength and is now resident company at Sadler’s Wells theatre in London.
This revival of Nutcracker! forms part of an ongoing New Adventures repertory which includes some of the most successful dance productions of the past two decades – Swan Lake, The Car Man, Play Without Words, Highland Fling and Edward Scissorhands.
Not to be missed by anyone who didn’t get to watch the production last time it was in town.
