BALLET: The Snow Queen, Palace Theatre, 27 Nov to 2 Dec
23/11/2007
HANS Christian Andersen’s delightful fairytale The Snow Queen gets a new look courtesy of English National Ballet next week.
The company comes to Manchester’s Palace Theatre from Monday to Sunday with Michael Corder’s adaptation of this classic story.
This is his third new work for EBB – his acclaimed production of Cinderella gained a clutch of awards, and his 2003 creation Melody on the Move won standing ovations at its world premiere.
The music has been arranged by Julian Philips from Prokofiev’s ballet The Stone Flower and other Prokofiev works.
The Snow Queen itself is a touching, Gothic fairytale, retold by ENB’s full company of dancers with live music from the full Orchestra of English National Ballet.
Andersen’s fairytale centres on two young friends, Kay and Gerda, thrown into chaos when eternal winter descends on their land. and Kay catches a sliver of the Snow Queen’s shattered magic mirror in his eye.
This memorable story in its latest lavish reincarnation is guaranteed to delight ballet fans of all ages. For tickets ring 0870 401 3000.
