Sarkar Raj to have its world premiere at Indian 'Oscars'

7/ 5/2008

DIRECTOR Ram Gopal Varma's latest film Sarkar Raj is to have its premiere during the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) ceremony to be held in Bangkok this summer.

The film, which stars Amitabh, Abhishek and Aishywarya  Rai Bachchan, is a sequel to Sarkar which already saw a release in UK cinemas last year and was inspired by Francis Ford Coppola's, The Godfather, but the sequel will be completely original.

The movie takes a look at the life of the Nagare, as Abhishek's character takes on his father's business empire.

While Aishwarya plays a calculating and merciless businesswoman, Abhishek's character takes a more caring attitude within the business world.

Said Amitabh Bachchan: "IIFA entering its ninth  year is a testament to its endurance and its importance in the industry. It gives me immense pleasure to be associated with a credible platform like IIFA which promotes Indian cinema globally.

"I am delighted that my forthcoming film, Sarkar Raj, is being premiered at the prestigious IIFA World Premier 2008, Bangkok and am eagerly looking forward to this splendid event."

The IIFA ceremony will take place in Bangkok between 6-8th June.
