The Paper
The Salford Advertiser incorporates the long-established Salford City Reporter and is very much the paper of the area as its lively letters pages show. This is a newsy area with a paper that reflects the fact. Advertising has strength in depth and a recent development is the Homesearch property supplement.

The Market
The City of Salford lies so close to the city centre of Manchester that this is the natural centre of retail activity. Indeed much retail activity, particularly in the discount store sector, is actually in Salford.

Salford, which rejects the geographically accurate description of West Manchester, also has its own modern shopping centre. There are thriving shopping centres, too, at Eccles, Swinton and Pendlebury, and a subsidiary network of neighbourhood shopping centres. The Trafford Centre is just a short distance over the city boundary. Salford, the home Lowry and Walter Greenwood, has changed enormously. Salford Quays, with its hotels, business centres and up-market residential property is probably the largest new development in the North of England. The £80m Lowry Centre is now open here, establishing a major regional tourism focus to add to extensive existing leisure facilities.

The Worsley area, with its picturesque black-and-white houses in their canal-side setting, is a much sought after district.

Communication Links
The M602 motorway is Salford's own link to the M60, the M62 and the national motorway network. A new Metrolink service has been established to Manchester.
