Salford Expats

ARE you a former resident of Salford who has moved abroad and who wants to get back in touch with people still living in the town? Do you know of friends or family who have moved overseas and you want to try and track them down? Well here's your chance with our new interactive map ...

In this section, we're giving an opportunity for people who were parted when locals decided to make new lives overseas to make contact once again.

If you are an ex-pat, who wants to know the whereabouts of a pal or relative, send us the details and we'll post them up here. The same is true of locals - let us know if you want to get back in touch with a local who has left these shores. You never know - they might just visit this site, read your message and you could be reunited.

Alternatively, ex-pats can write to us simply if they want to let the folks back home know what they've been up to, how life overseas is treating them, and what they miss about Salford.

All you have to do to take advantage of this service is to click here to go to our interactive map of the world , then click on the part of the map where you live. Your own pinpoint will appear which you can move to the exact location you want (use the controls on the top-right of the map to move around and to zoom in and out, right down to street level).

A form will also appear which will allow you to give your name, contact details, reason for moving and anything else you want to share with us.

I am trying to contact Ben Morris from Monton, Eccles who wrote a letter sometime ago to the MEN stating that his ancestor owned Hall's Manufacturing Herbalists on Cross Lane Salford. My grandfather, John H Hall, was the MD of Hall's until his death in 1954...my uncle Basil Hall then took over, The premises were demolished in the 1960's and the business moved to Langworthy Road, Weaste. I would like to know in what way Mr Morris is connected to my family as I am in thr process of researching my family tree. My name is Martin Clarke and was born in 1963, went to Fernhill School until 1979 and would love to chat to anyone from my school days or from back home who might know me. I am really looking for Anne Sharp, Colin Williams or David Garner anyone else who went there. After leaving school and at the age of 17 I got crohns and spent much of my time in and out of hospitals (so maybe some nurses might remember me too) I had a pretty hard life in salford but in 2000 met my wife on the internet (I was home sick) and moved to Kansas, USA and now own 3 successful businesses over here, proof regardless of how your cards are dealt in life you can do anything if you have the will to succeed in life. Hello,

My name is Keith Bell and have just (7 Jan 2010) registered. A former classmate recommended this site.

I was born in Salford in 1944 and went to Halton Bank School from 1949-1959. I lived in Tanners Lane, Pendleton, until 1960.

Retired and widowed living in Preston.

Would like to hear from anybody who remembers me.

Any old Halton Bankers out there? I was there from 1950 to 1960 or thereabouts, it's not easy to remember when you get this old... My grandad, Billy Ross, (1892-1967) was a founder member of McMahon's football club, Broughton (1930's) and a regular at the Griffin. After the first world war,married to Lucy Mary, he lived on Enys Street and then Whit Lane Pendleton. If this rings any bells please get in touch as I'm trying to trace his lifestory without much success. Thanks Jane

Does anyone out there recall (or recall mention of) either of the following - McMahon's Football Club The Griffin Hotel ? Both I believe were in Broughton and, according to my mother, her father, Billy Ross, spent much of his time in both! This was in 1930's -1950's. I'm trying to trace Billy's past. He was born in 1892 and died in 1967. Any info on him or his haunts would be great! Thanks, Jane

Hi, I was born at Salford Royal Hospital in 1941 and lived at 16 Portland Avenue, Salford. Moved to Eccles new Road about 1951 where we lived behind Simpson's Funeral Parlor. Went to Tootal Road Primary then to Tootal Road Secondary Modern. Left the UK in 1960 and moved to the US...still here. Does anybody remember me from school and/or Portland Avenue? Hi My name is Olive Jenkins I live in Queensland Australia.I am looking for relatives who may still live in salford. My Maiden name is Fearnley I am looking for a Kenneth and his Brother Ronnie Barrow. Their mother was Rosie maiden name Fearnley.Kenneth and Ronnie was my fathers nephews.
