Reading the letter from Yvonne Ainsworth (Carter) about the 3 trees in the old graveyard on Brindle Heath Road brought back memories. I used to live in Maybury St, just off Brindle Heath Rd. I can remember a few of us trying to cut one of the trees down for bonfire wood. Fortunately we weren't very successful, we only had a small very blunt axe and a hammer. Anyway a neighbour came out and said they had phoned the police. We were that scared we spent the rest of the day hiding down a large manhole in St Annes churchyard. It's funny how a name or a place from your childhood can transport you back 50 or 60 years.

Bill Lucas (ex Brindle Heathen).

I have just come across the site and now live in Tunbridge Wells in Kent after spending many years in South Africa, and do still get 'homesick'.

It has been lovely reading the different comments - it has brought back lots of memories.

Would though like to get in touch with anybody who remembers me, as reading all the comments, I have not come across many from my era 1951 onwards. I used to live on Sutton Flats and at some point attended Halton Bank School, then moved to Lower Broughton and went to Ascension Primary School, but then back to Sutton Flats and spent my higher education at Broughton Modern in Lower Broughton.

I was then Susan Bullock (now Robinson)and have two brothers Stephen and Stuart. When swe lived on Sutton Flats we lived on the block that had the big 'cage' in front of it where all the boys played football and such games.

If you remember me and want to get in touch, I would love to hear from you.
