Bull fighting is over hyped and should be banned. There is nothing good about it it is a cowardly act in a giant cod piece.

   Look on the bright side, at least sometimes the matadors get seriously injured.

How hard are foxes? it seems the only way to catch one is to use 20 blokes on horseback and 50 dogs.

The foxes become like the killer bunny in Monty python and the Holy Grail when cornered?

   What a vile,cruel"sport" if you can call it a sport where they annoy the animal and then slowly bleed the animal to death .And the spanish are supposed to be "Civilised Europeans"? Whatever happened to being a united europe.Europe is great at outlawing bent carrots and market traders who sell produce by the pound,but do nothing when it comes to animal wellfare.And this terrible treatment of animals.

   MinorityReport, I wasn't trying to divert anything, I was pointing out that bullfighting is an easy target for this nation of "animal lovers", whereas something that a lot of people do everyday - i.e. buy meat that is produced in the conditions mentioned earlier - seems to slip under their moral radar unnoticed.

But having taken the time out to read books about other cultures etc . of which I now belong I stated that I would prefer to keep my opinions to myself . If killing animals " humanely is OK with you then , it is OK with me . So murdering a person "humanely' i.e no pain , a quick bullet to the head is OK by you . But do not take into consideration the stress that the animal goes through to end up on your plate . I gave that guilt up a long time ago . Possibly that steak that you are enjoying is one of Franks bulls . Enjoy it .

I know some people will comment about cows and lambs etc being bred for their meat but if they were slaughtered in this way i.e. inhumanely, there would be a public outcry.

   UnsungZero, if you are saying that the horrors in abattoirs or factory farms should be stopped, I agree with you - it was discovering both these that turned me off meat. But if you are saying that the existence of one kind of cruelty means we should tolerate others, then it is a nonsense argument. If people buy cheap clothes made by underpaid workers, should they therefore not support charities that help deprived people? They should certainly try to buy ethically as well, but our system makes it awkward and expensive to buy ethical, organic or cruelty-free products.

I and many others support the fight against cruelty in all forms. There are organisations campaigning to stop all the various abuses of animals and humans. In the end, they need the help of Governments to make a real difference. All they can do is highlight the horrors in the hope that people will care enough to influence politicians, or take direct action to intervene where they can.

Your argument is a typical diversion, used to make a topic seem less important. For example, if the discussion was about factory farms, you could say, "Why aren’t you campaigning for starving children?" or if we were concerned with starving children, you could say, "What about the victims of massacres in Africa?"

   UnsungZero: big difference is that killing stuff for food has a point. Killing bulls for entertainment is just disgusting.

   It's a dying art bullfighting, I think I'd probably enjoy it if I'm honest. All you lot slagging Frank, I assume you are all vegans, if so then fair enough. If not, have you seen inside an abbatoir or a chicken factory? I have and it's brutal, and it takes place day-in day-out on a scale that dwarfs bullfighting.

Hopefully you will all be protesting as loudly about that aswell...

   I know Frank and he loves this, he retired a few years back in Fuengerola and I went to see him retire, they then cut off his pony tail as is tradition in bullfighting, whilst I hated to see the bull suffer, and die, its a sport, like watching boxers punch the daylights out of each other legally! If Frank enjoys this, then who are we to judge, he is old, had new hips, but in his head he is 21..so let him enjoy it.

   jd4141. I know my place on the food chain and I can deal with it. You have to source your food responsibly. i.e. dont buy cheap meat from supermarkets but spend more on quality reared meats from ethical suppliers, there is a long way to go but things are improving.

Also does your religion not preach non-violence towards animals, particularly in the name of sport? Your holier than thou attitude makes me sick.

There is quite some difference between humane slaughter of animals for food and the torture involved in bull fighting for fun, as already pointed out in earlier posts. Maybe you also have vasseline in your eyes?

A nice sensible person does not pretend there is any skill in killing a bull which has been weakened and tortured, harrassed and driven out of its mind. A nice sensible person would not go within a hundred miles of a bull ring. The bull stands no chance; the matador "wins" 99.9% of the time. The bull dies in bloody gore, exhausted. tormented, insane with rage and pain.

There are millions of nice sensible people who enjoy a lovely steak without any feeling of hypocrisy, because your comparison is puerile.

It is hard to believe that this article has been published without a balancing reference to the evil of bullfighting - "El Inglais" is depicted as a hero, instead of a callous monster. It is even harder to understand why anyone would want to publish a book about Evans, or why a film star would want to portray him.

Whatever the arguments about meat and slaughter-houses, it is inexcusable to torment and kill an animal for entertainment. If the media does not speak out against such horrors, how will they be stopped?

   There are many events in different cultures throughout the world that would not suit everyone.

The bull would never get to a fight in the UK, it would have been destroyed at birth or if more fortunate or unfortunate put into veal production. Living 12 weeks as opposed to 6 weeks for the average hen.

   greanpeace,paul mccartney and countless other's have campained for year's about the seal hunt of the labrador and newfoundland coast, but this hunt origially fed and clothed the inuit and latter the european settler's, it was only later on that the european wealthy who took a liking for the white fur coats that it became immoral, don't get me wrong I am not for the seal hunt, but i'd like to know ,where the so called animal actavist have been hiding all these years?, when it comes to this barbaric so called sport. I like all comment's on here would like to see the bull's win more often.

   How disappointing that the MEN has seen fit to glorify this outdated barbaric sport with this article. If Frank wants to die in the ring, let us all join him in that wish with fervent prayer and hope that the bull takes it's time about it and makes him suffer at least a quarter the amount of pain that he has inflicted over the years.
